COVID -19 ANNOUNCEMENT
IMPORTANT FACILITY INFORMATION
The health and safety of our residents and staff members remains our number one priority. During this unprecedented pandemic, we are diligently keeping abreast of the latest information and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
We also have regular communication with the Department of Public Health and East Shore District Health Department.
These sources provide new and vital information daily. We update our practice and policies as often as advised and needed.
We want to keep you abreast of how the latest information impacts the facility, families, and friends of our residents.
Enhanced infection control measures
Our emergency preparedness protocols include several enhanced infection prevention and control measures. Health care personnel are trained in proper handwashing technique and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Housekeeping staff are performing additional cleaning and disinfecting measures to remove virus and germs from high touch surfaces and floors in resident rooms and throughout the facility.
Heightened visitation restrictions and screening of staff and essential personnel
The state and federal government require the strictest limitations to visits by families and non-essential persons. The facility has closed the Ledgewood Rehab entrance (LW rear) and effective immediately only staff members and essential personnel are allowed entry through the Branford Hills (BH front) entrance.
The BH entrance is monitored and serves as the screening area for staff and essential personnel. All staff and essential personnel must have their temperature taken and be screened with the following questions each time they enter the facility:
– International travel within the last 14 days to restricted countries (currently China, Iran, South Korea, Italy and Japan)
– Signs and symptoms of a respiratory infection such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and a sore throat.
– Contact with someone with or under investigation for COVID-19
Anyone with a fever and/or meeting any of the criteria above, will not be allowed to enter the facility to work. Screening measures may be changed without notice as new information is made available.
No communal dining and activities
We have stopped communal dining and residents are being served meals in their rooms. We are developing fun and creative activities for the residents that follow CDC social distancing guidelines.
Communicating with residents and loved ones
We are devising plans where you can stay connected to your loved one by various means. The recreation and social work staff will be reaching out to all families to set up times for face timing, Skype or phone calls.
You should know that your loved ones are in good hands with well trained, educated and compassionate staff. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our Infection Control Preventionist Barbara Brunye′ at 203-315-2610, or you can call me directly at 203-483-4467.
We also understand and sympathize with the undue stress this situation has on families and our residents. We are here to provide you with guidance and information and support. We truly appreciate your understanding and kind support of every staff member that is working very hard to help our residents and each other stay safe and healthy during this difficult time.
